13th annual WorkSafeBC Student Safety Video Contest underway  What does it mean to listen to your gut at work? That's the theme WorkSafeBC wants high school students to explore in the 2018 Student Safety Video Contest. Students are invited to create a two-minute video that looks at trusting one's instincts when something doesn't feel safe at work. The 13th annual video contest offers four prizes of $2,500 for the top videos: two for students in grades 8–10 and two for those in grades 11–12. Prizes are provided by contest sponsors London Drugs, Seaspan, Technical Safety BC, and Actsafe. As in past years, prize money is shared between students with the winning entries and their schools. Additional honorable mention prizes may also be awarded. Entries will be judged on the impact of their safety message, original creative concept, and technical execution. The top entry will also advance to the national Focus on Safety Youth Video Contest to compete for additional prizes. The deadline for entries is March 28, 2018. New for 2018 For entries in the grade 11–12 category, Actsafe is also offering a bonus prize called the Actsafe Aspiring Filmmaker Award. The winners will receive lunch with a prominent Canadian filmmaker, a behind-the-scenes tour of a current production, a screening of their film at a Directors Guild of Canada event, a spot in Actsafe's Motion Picture Safety Awareness Workshop, and an award to take home.
